Nominate Priorities
The deadline for nominating priorities is August 22, 2022. Please review the priority setting criteria and instructions for nominating priorities carefully.
Priority Setting Criteria
Question: What is the criteria for priority setting? Is the end goal to set an MRL for a particular pesticide on a particular crop?
Answer: Our mission is to develop new MRLs to facilitate harmonized trade. The first criteria is the most important, but the more of these criteria that can be met, the stronger the justification. In considering the nomination of an existing priority, or submitting a new priority, the key criteria are:
1. Is this an important crop-pest combination for which we do not have an effective control registered; is there a residue-trade issue; is there resistance to an existing product; or is a current product threatened with being cancelled?
2. Are there potential solution(s) that can effectively control the pest and would the registrant support the use?
3. Does the potential solution – crop combination already have a CODEX MRL, or would we be able to develop a new MRL? You can see existing CODEX MRLs by pesticide name here, and it lists the crops that have an MRL. https://www.fao.org/fao-who-codexalimentarius/codex-texts/dbs/pestres/pesticides/en/
Priority Nomination Instructions
Review the current Global Minor Use Priority List (GMUPL), then use the forms below to nominate existing priorities and submit new priorities not currently listed in the GMUPL.
To nominate existing priorities, it is necessary to understand the existing unique ID that is assigned to the current list of priorities. The unique ID is used by our system to pull the associated crop, target, cropping system, climate and discipline combination to auto-populate the information on the nomination form. Please carefully review the list of existing priorities and take note of the unique IDs you want to nominate.
The current GMUPL is linked below as a Google Sheet to improve accessibility. It is read-only, so you can filter and sort the list to help you find the crop/pest combinations you would like to nominate.
If a particular crop/pest combination of interest is not already listed, please submit the combination as a new priority. We strongly encourage participants to thoroughly review the current list before submitting new priorities. From a starting list of 3,500, it is possible that the combination has been previously identified.
You can check your nominations and those of other participants, by viewing the Nominations worksheet. Click the link to the Current GMUPL below and select the Nominations worksheet via the tab at the bottom of the screen. Please note, new submissions may take up to a minute to appear.
Nominate Existing Priority
After nominating an existing priority, you will have the option to nominate another existing priority or submit a new priority. If you ONLY want to submit a new priority, please click here to access the new priority form.
