The Minor Use Foundation conducted a prioritization process leading up to the 2025 Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues (CCPR) meeting in September 2025. The prioritization process goes to the core of what we do so we can work to address the most critical needs of specialty crop growers. We are now conducting regional workshops to discuss the results and further validate them.
The overall goal is to develop a list of top pest management priorities around the globe. This is a stakeholder-driven, collaborative process to inform the work of the Foundation.
We heard from growers, researchers, and governments about the most pressing and challenging pest and disease burdens for specialty crops. The open call for nominations ensures a bottom-up, demand-driven process that reflects real-world pest management challenges. We received an impressive response—approximately 5,000 nominations came in from diverse regions and cropping systems, reflecting the continued global demand for support in addressing pest and disease pressures on specialty and minor crops.
Next, we received input from industry on crop protection solutions so we could identify synergies between grower needs and industry pipeline/registration strategies to come up with potential projects.
The Foundation conducted a comprehensive data analysis of the submitted nominations to identify high-frequency pest-crop combinations, regional trends, and priority areas for intervention.
Following data analysis, the emerging priorities were validated through expert consultation with the Tropical Fruits Liaison Team, the Foundation Board and Advisory Council, composed of global and regional specialists, to ensure that the needs are appropriately integrated into the final priority list that aligns with the Foundation’s mandates and partners’ interests.
